Hue, a city of Thua Thien Hue Province, used to be the beloved capital of the country for a long period of time. The Perfume River, flowing gently and quietly around the city, spectacular mountain ranges and hills spotted with luxuriant orchards - all combine to make Hue a poetic urban masterpiece. In addition, it can be said that Hue embraces not only a vivid historical treasure but also typical Vietnamese traditional values. Geographically, Hue city is 660 kilometers south of Hanoi and 1,080 kilometers north of Ho Chi Minh City. The region has officially been under the reign of Dai Viet for about 700 years (since 1306); however, the typical features of Hue culture only took shape about 2 centuries ago.

Hue people's life has a strong attachment with the history of the city where a great number of cultural and artistic values of golden days are well preserved. These values are divided into two types: tangible and intangible values. Furthermore, Hue is diversified in its natural geographic components: forests, hills, plains, rivers, lagoons, beaches and so on. Based on these natural geographic entities, especially the Perfume River and Ngu Binh Hill, as well as using principles of Fengshui and Book of Changes, some Vietnamese architects in the old times planned and built a folk and royal architecture complex into a romantic and poetic landscape. Today, it is named landscape architecture by cultural researchers. Though partly damaged by time and above all by war, Hue ancient city's architectural complex, in general, remains nearly intact and is considered a cultural heritage of the country and the world. Moreover, Hue is also well-known as a center of intangible spiritual culture with classic and royal music. For such reasons, Hue was recognized as a World Cultural Heritage in 1993 by UNESCO.

The architecture of the city and the marvels of the Creator harmoniously combine to make Hue so beautiful that everyone seems to forget human contributions to its splendor. In addition, Hue people still preserve traditional, cultural, and spiritual values of this land and of the country, for instance, delicate habits and customs, folk and royal arts including music, dances, festivals, food, costumes, and crafts. The natural beauty, friendly people, peaceful, quiet life and convenient living conditions of Hue are some of the attractive features of this Vietnamese city. The harmonious combination of natural, architectural and human factors has turned Hue into a typical traditional and cultural center of the nation. Hue is an ideal destination not only for those who hope to enjoy lovely landscapes but also for those who seek cultural exchange opportunities in this land of rich and lifelong history of education.
